Asset Specialist

Position Summary

The position of Asset Specialist is responsible for the collection or restructure of Trouble Assets to a satisfactory status. Assist in the collection of the bank’s loans when needed and ensure the disposition of collecting assets to minimize monetary exposure. Pursue judgment filings on all outstanding debts. Monitor bankruptcy filings and file the necessary documentation on these accounts. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on judgments, bankruptcies, and collection analysis. Assist in minimizing losses on the bank’s loan portfolios and to maximize recovery on the charged-off loans.

Essential Duties

  1. Lead, train, and supervise the day to day operations of the collection department.
  2. Develop and implement strategies for managing and reducing delinquent accounts.
  3. Monitor and report department performance including key metrics, such as delinquency rates and recovery success.
  4. Communicate with borrowers regarding overdue payments, and negotiate payment plans where appropriate.
  5. Manage escalated collection cases, which may involve difficult or sensitive customer situations.
  6. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to debt collection, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  7. Prepare all documentation required to process bankruptcies and judgments; communicate with bank’s legal counsel regarding those documents.
  8. Communicate with senior management and loan officers regarding past-due loans.
  9. Make court appearances when required on judgments, bankruptcies or law suits.
  10. Review and approve settlements, loan modifications and charge offs, when appropriate.
  11. Repossess collateral when necessary and make ready, transport, and dispose as appropriate.
  12. Assist with other departmental duties; including, opening and closing duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic computer skills; Familiar with Word and excel.

Must be able to verbally communicate well with customers.

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Position Requirement

Bachelor's degree in Banking, Business Administration, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.

5+ years of experience in collections, preferably within the banking or financial services industry.

Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Bilingual preferred but not required.
